Suicide Prevention Assistance at BYUH

According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, “Suicide most often occurs when stressors and health issues converge to create an experience of hopelessness and despair.”

The staff at Counseling Services care deeply for the health and well-being of our BYUH community. We know by life experience and academic training that feelings of desolation and thoughts of suicide are real, they are painful, and can be exhausting. We also know that there is an effective and enduring help. Help that heals. Healing that gives us hope. Hope that allows us to move forward. We are here to offer our understanding, compassion, and training to join you in creating a life worth living.

If you or someone you know is struggling with thoughts of suicide or harming themself or others, please call Counseling Services at (808) 675-3518. If you would prefer to talk to a counselor in person, you are welcome to walk in for immediate assistance. Counseling Services is open Monday thru Friday from 8 am-5 pm. For after-hours support call the BYUH Department of Public Safety at (808) 675-3911. For emergencies, you may call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
